The Pacific

Postby =DREAD= TJ » 14 Mar 2010, 03:49

Just a reminder that the Pacific starts tonight on HBO. I watched the red carpet preview last night and it looks so good.
William Sadler as Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller? Hmmmm, those are some big shoes to fill.

Splat,
Just a thought. Sometimes I have seen stuff like this streamed on Justin.tv . I know you had problems with Justin.tv before but it might be worth a look.

Does look good. No early reviews from you east coasters giving away who wins.

Well, I watched the first episode and I am a bit disappointed. There was no intro to the people like in the other series. I feel like I am watching an action film instead of a series like Band of Brothers. It is early but Band of Brothers did a great job of introducing the people to you. We will see where it goes in the next episode.

That's because BOB was based on the Ambrose book of the same name. BOB was about the 506 PIR, an entire company with many central characters. Pacific is only centered around 3 main characters Robert Leckie, who wrote books "Helmet for My Pillow", Eugene Sledge, "China Marine" and John Basilone . Pacific's main objective is to show the brutal horror of combat the Marines encountered in the PTO. The series is not a character focal point like BOB was. It was not intended nor could it follow the plot lines you are refering to in BOB. Pacifc will be a first person series instead of a third person series like BOB.

Yeah listen to TJ. He is writing an editorial for the local paper. Or at least he should be.

Lucky for me I was browsing thru Comcast on Demand and bam there was "The Pacific" Episode 1. :shock:

So I watched the first one and liked it a lot...kinda echo what Combat said about not having a "intro" into the characters like the first episode of Band of Brothers at their camp but that aside it was great, looking forward to more!
